Tencent is both an investor in Moonshot AI and a direct competitor through its Hunyuan model series, while Moonshot and Alibaba are developing revenue-sharing arrangements for commercial artificial-intelligence deployments. Researchers and small developers can access Kimi K3 at minimal cost, but commercial users exceeding $20 million in annual revenue must negotiate separately with Moonshot, with licensing terms allowing revenue shares of up to 30%. Alibaba is reportedly preparing a similar framework for its upcoming Qwen3.8-Max model. Kimi K3 costs roughly one-third as much as comparable Western models such as Anthropic’s Fable and has drawn attention for competitive results on selected coding and web-related benchmarks. Moonshot has agreements with Chinasoft International and DigitalOcean and is in early-stage hosting discussions with Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.
