Spot gold and silver retreated sharply in the short term after Federal Reserve Chairman Waller's speech, according to Gate market data. Gold fell about $100 from its high, reached a low of $4,530 an ounce and was later reported at $4,560. Silver dropped more than $1 during the day, hit $68.1 an ounce and was later reported at $69.0. An earlier record described increased rate-hike expectations and falling U.S. short-term interest rate futures after remarks by Federal Reserve Chairman Warsh on Aug. 28, creating a discrepancy in the reported speaker and market event.
