CNN political commentator Bakari Sellers said President Trump is being bullied by Canada during an escalating trade dispute, contrasting his handling of the country with the administrations of Joe Biden, Barack Obama and George W. Bush. Sellers also criticized Trump’s Thursday executive order renaming Lake Ontario, which is shared by New York and Canadian province Ottawa, as Lake America. The dispute intensified after Canada backed out of trade negotiations with the United States, prompting Trump to announce 50% tariffs on $20 billion worth of Canadian imports. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney responded with dollar-for-dollar retaliatory tariffs and criticized the lake renaming, while other Canadian officials also rejected the change. Canada is not required to use the new name. Trump previously renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America on his first day in office.
