Florida recorded an estimated 1.68 million Canadian visitors in the first half of 2026, about 270,000 fewer than a year earlier, according to Visit Florida. The 14% decline followed a nearly 7% decrease in 2025 and helped push the state’s overall visitors down 1.4% after a record year. The drop has coincided with escalating U.S.-Canada tensions since President Trump returned to office in early 2025, including his Thursday executive order changing Lake Ontario’s name to "Lake America." Statistics Canada said Canadians made roughly 25% fewer trips to the United States last year and spent about $2.3 billion less. Florida remains especially exposed because Canada is its largest international market, although more than 90% of the state’s 73.5 million visitors in the first half of 2026 came from elsewhere in the United States.
