Vancouver Whitecaps defender Tate Johnson signed a contract extension through the 2029-30 MLS season, with financial terms undisclosed. The club also holds an option for 2030-31. Johnson, 21, has recorded three assists in 18 matches, including 17 starts, this season. Since Vancouver selected him 15th overall in the 2025 MLS SuperDraft, he has one goal and five assists in 47 MLS matches, including 37 starts. Whitecaps FC sporting director Axel Schuster said Johnson had made significant progress since joining at the start of the 2025 season and that the club was pleased he had committed long term. Johnson said he had enjoyed his time in Vancouver and was focused on helping the club and city achieve further success.
