The Trump administration appealed a ruling requiring the federal government to resume payments for the $16 billion Hudson Tunnel Project after an appeals court rejected its bid to halt funding. The project would build a new commuter rail tunnel (passenger rail for daily travel) between Manhattan and New Jersey and repair a century-old tunnel carrying more than 200,000 travelers and 425 trains each day. The U.S. Transportation Department abruptly stopped releasing grant funds on Oct. 1 during a partial government shutdown that President Donald Trump blamed on congressional Democrats. A U.S. judge ordered payments to resume in February.
