MIAX, the U.S. options exchange group, will resume listing options on BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF, or IBIT, under a new lower-threshold Tier 2 framework on Aug. 18, 2026. The exchange named Aug. 19, 24, 26 and 31 as initial expirations, restoring additional Monday and Wednesday short-term dates during the third quarter. IBIT appeared on MIAX’s January 2026 and second-quarter rosters before disappearing from the Q3 list published July 1. The MIAX and SEC (U.S. securities regulator) notices do not say which previous eligibility test caused the removal. BlackRock’s historical data indicate about $43.23 billion in IBIT net assets on June 30, below the former $50 billion AUM (assets under management) requirement but above the new $25 billion Tier 2 threshold. The new tier also requires more than 5 million monthly options sides, a position limit of at least 250,000 contracts and participation in the Penny Interval Program. IBIT’s position and exercise limit was raised to 1 million contracts in May 2026. Tier 2 permits only Monday and Wednesday expirations, with no more than two of each beyond the current week at one time. Contracts are P.M.-settled (settled using afternoon prices), and MIAX cannot list a Tier 2 expiration on a date that coincides with a standard, monthly or quarterly expiration. MIAX Pearl filed the change Aug. 13, 2026; the SEC waived the usual 30-day delay but retained power to suspend the rule temporarily within 60 days. The Federal Register set Sept. 17, 2026, as the comment deadline. The venue-specific change reopens additional IBIT dates but does not alter IBIT options market-wide or establish its effect on trading volume or Bitcoin volatility.
