The Trump administration is considering a land exchange or access proposal that could convey a small piece of Yosemite National Park, or an interest in it, to Nevada-based Kingsbarn Realty Capital for a private access road. Kingsbarn owns an 83-acre parcel historically known as Hazel Green Ranch near the park’s western boundary; attorney Lanny Davis said the firm has worked with National Park Service staff on a swap for a road under a mile to a park entrance and framed the shorter route as reducing driving, emissions and safety risks. Documents first reported by NOTUS indicate Kingsbarn would buy land of equal value elsewhere in California and transfer it to the park service, a structure earlier accounts also described without identifying the replacement parcel. An Interior Department spokesperson said no final decision has been made and any National Park Service land exchange would face environmental review, public notification and other federal requirements. The Sierra Club and the National Parks Conservation Association oppose the plan as an unlawful break with protecting Yosemite for the public; a federal appeals court in 2012 affirmed dismissal of a former owner’s road-easement claims, and exchanges of park land for private development access are described as unusual. Kingsbarn CEO Jeff Pori made mostly small-dollar donations to President Donald Trump’s campaign committee in 2024 and 2025 after no prior national campaign giving before October 2024; CNBC has found no evidence the contributions influenced the administration’s consideration.
