Ripple has pledged $300,000 for emergency relief after catastrophic flooding across Nepal and China’s Tibet region, splitting the support between World Central Kitchen and Mercy Corps for meals, clean water and sanitation in hard-hit communities. The San Francisco-based blockchain payments company said the contribution followed the Aug. 26 glacier-related collapse that sent ice, rock, mud and debris through mountain river systems along the Nepal-China border. By Sunday morning, authorities reported 750 deaths and more than 3,000 people missing across both sides of the border, with Nepal recording 734 dead and 2,498 missing and Tibet’s Gyirong County reporting 16 dead and 546 missing, up from earlier Reuters tallies of at least 669 dead in Nepal and seven in Tibet. The Red Cross estimated more than 90,000 people were affected as roads, bridges, hydropower facilities and settlements were damaged or destroyed, isolating communities and trapping hundreds of workers in damaged hydropower tunnels. Nepalese officials have put reconstruction needs in a $4 billion to $5 billion range—nearly a tenth of the economy—while Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle framed a similar preliminary band. World Central Kitchen’s local restaurant partners are already serving meals in Rasuwa and Nuwakot, and Mercy Corps, active in Nepal since 2005, is coordinating water, sanitation and related humanitarian work. The gift extends prior Ripple partnerships with both groups, including blockchain-linked humanitarian finance pilots, though Ripple did not say XRP, RLUSD or another digital asset would be used for this donation; its Impact reporting has cited more than $200 million in charitable giving from 2018 through 2024 and more than $250 million since 2018 including over $70 million in 2025.
