ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has started mass production of LPDDR6, a low-power mobile DRAM specification, and plans to supply the memory for Xiaomi’s 18 Fold foldable smartphone, scheduled for release in September. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun said the company’s Xuanji O3 AI processor will be the first to support CXMT’s LPDDR6 in the device. CXMT said the memory reaches speeds of up to 12,800 Mbps and capacities of 16Gb, with samples already sent to key customers for verification. The company expects LPDDR6 to serve mobile devices, servers and smart vehicles, while Chinese media described the move as the world’s first commercialization of LPDDR6 products. The development raises competitive pressure on Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, as AI demand increases interest in faster memory for on-device computing and AI data centers.
