A total of 2,318 companies listed in Shanghai generated 26.22 trillion yuan in operating revenue and 2.82 trillion yuan in net profit in the first half of 2026, according to a Shanghai Stock Exchange review. Revenue increased 6.3% year on year, while profit growth reached 17.6%, the highest pace since 2022. STAR Market (Shanghai’s technology-focused board) companies recorded particularly strong gains, with revenue up 38.6% to 1.01 trillion yuan and net profit up 437.6% to 144.887 billion yuan, exceeding their full-year level from 2025. Among them, 36 growth-tier companies increased revenue 29.1% and reduced their losses by 62.3%. Investor returns also expanded, with 427 Shanghai-listed companies announcing interim dividends totaling 633 billion yuan. The six major banks accounted for 220.9 billion yuan, while 16 companies declared dividends exceeding 10 billion yuan each.
