Bitcoin entered the week near $78,000 after rising above $81,000 on August 28, as investors focused on the U.S. August employment report and Russia’s digital ruble rollout. The nonfarm payrolls report is due Sept. 4 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, with economists expecting payrolls to rise by 58,000 after July’s 23,000 decline and forecasting a 4.1% unemployment rate, down from 4.2%. A weaker reading could reduce expectations for additional U.S. rate hikes and pressure Treasury yields and the dollar, while stronger hiring could revive higher-rate bets. Earlier indicators include the August manufacturing PMI and July JOLTS data on Sept. 1, followed by weekly jobless claims and the August services PMI on Sept. 3. Russia will begin the first large-scale phase of its digital ruble rollout on Sept. 1, the same day comments close on proposed rules for a ruble-based stablecoin. Token unlocks include about $10.23 million of SUI, equal to 0.33% of circulating supply, on Sept. 1 and about $28.39 million of ENA, equal to 1.92%, on Sept. 5. Other scheduled developments include Mina’s Mesa upgrade, Binance spot delistings of ICX, SCRT and STORJ, Ethena’s revised investor unlock schedule, the closing of a European Commission MiCA consultation and a U.K. inquiry into banking restrictions affecting crypto companies.
