Hong Jee-sun, South Korea's nominee for minister of land, infrastructure and transport, pledged close consultations with the Seoul city government to narrow differences over housing supply plans, including a proposal to use parts of Yongsan Park for development. Hong, currently vice land minister, was nominated a day after Minister Kim Yun-duk faced opposition from Seoul. He said he would accelerate quality housing delivery from groundbreaking through move-in, with particular attention to young people and newlyweds, while drawing on his regional-government experience to improve cooperation between central and local authorities. His wider priorities include mega projects, expanded transport infrastructure, future mobility and safety management after the fatal accident at Uiwang Station on the 29th. Public hearings on the second national railway network plan and road network plan are scheduled for September or October, followed by public notice in November. Hong must undergo a parliamentary confirmation hearing before President Lee Jae Myung formally appoints him.
