South Korea and the United States discussed measures to strengthen energy cooperation amid heightened uncertainty in global markets. Korea's Second Vice Climate Minister Lee Ho-hyeon met acting Assistant Secretary Curt Coccodrilli in Seoul on August 31, with talks focused on stable energy supply chains, reliable power supplies, electricity-grid security and expanding Energy Storage Systems as electricity demand grows. The meeting also covered energy-security and power-demand-response issues linked to this year’s U.S.-chaired G20 Energy Ministers’ Meeting, along with bilateral cooperation involving power generation, electricity, coal and geothermal energy. Lee said reliable energy supply and power provision underpin industrial competitiveness and that the talks could support a joint response to market uncertainty.
