Samsung Heavy Industries secured a ₩444.5 billion ($310 million) contract from an African shipping company for two container ships, with delivery scheduled by December 2028. The order lifts the shipbuilder's commercial-vessel tally this year to 36 ships worth $6.1 billion, or approximately ₩8.39 trillion, exceeding its $5.7 billion annual target. LNG carriers account for 14 vessels, including two floating storage and regasification units, while the remainder comprises 12 crude oil tankers, four container ships, four gas carriers and two ethane carriers. Including offshore projects, Samsung Heavy Industries has booked $10.5 billion in orders, or 76% of its $13.9 billion full-year target. The company plans to prioritize profitability in future orders as demand for eco-friendly replacement vessels supports activity in the 8,000-to-13,000-TEU container-ship segment.
