Core DAO said an incident in which validators claimed more CORE rewards than the blockchain intended has been contained, and that malicious validators can no longer draw excess rewards. The project is coordinating an emergency hard fork framed as a forward upgrade that will not roll back the network or reverse previously confirmed transactions. Core earlier said a small number of validators accrued rewards significantly above intended issuance, described the issue as limited to reward issuance, and said user assets remained safe. It has not disclosed how much excess CORE was issued, how long the activity continued, whether additional tokens entered circulation, or the underlying vulnerability, and said it would publish a technical postmortem. Several exchanges restricted CORE transfers around the incident: Coinbase paused sends and receives, Bithumb and Coinone suspended deposits and withdrawals, Bitget suspended deposits and withdrawals, and LBank suspended deposits. The lasting impact on CORE’s supply remains unresolved.
