Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates reaffirmed his opposition to cryptocurrencies in an interview with APT on Aug. 28, saying he would not choose cryptocurrency when diversifying beyond the dollar. He described himself as skeptical of assets purely driven by mania and said a globally balanced basket of stocks is generally the best long-term investment. Gates also acknowledged missing gold’s recent rally while maintaining a cautious view of the asset. The comments came as Bitcoin recovered sharply in August, rising roughly 24% over the month after rebounding from around $64,000 earlier in the month. Bitcoin was trading at approximately $77,993 on Decibel, down about 1.1% over the prior 24 hours. The latest figures differ from an earlier discussion that cited a rise from $30,314.33 to $78,060, or 157%. Gates has criticized Bitcoin for years, calling it a greater fool theory investment in 2018 and saying in 2022 that he owned no cryptocurrency.
