BCC Research reports that electronic health records (EHRs) are expanding as healthcare providers respond to chronic disease, regulatory requirements, physician burnout and demand for coordinated, proactive care. Its Global Markets and Technologies for Electronic Health Records report (HLC205B) projects the global EHR market will grow from $34.2 billion in 2023 to $52.2 billion by 2030 at a 7.4% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) during 2025–2030. Separately, the AI Impact on Electronic Health Records - BCC Pulse Report (AIT186A) says AI-enabled EHR platforms attracted more than $1 billion in disclosed venture capital funding during 2024–2025, including major rounds for Abridge AI Inc., Ambience Healthcare, Innovaccer and Navina Technologies. North America accounts for 43.5% of global EHR revenue, while China’s AI healthcare market is projected to increase from approximately $0.55 billion in 2022 to more than $11.9 billion by 2030, at nearly 47% CAGR. Cloud-based software-as-a-service (SaaS), artificial intelligence, natural language processing, FHIR interoperability standards, ambient clinical intelligence and predictive analytics are expanding EHRs beyond passive data storage. Regulatory measures including HIPAA, the U.S. 21st Century Cures Act and the European Union’s European Health Data Space are supporting digitization and data sharing, while cybersecurity, implementation costs, legacy-system fragmentation and uneven infrastructure remain risks.
