Kenyan aviation workers called off a two-day strike on Tuesday after the Kenya Aviation Workers Union signed a return-to-work agreement with the Transport Ministry, Kenya Airports Authority, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and Jambojet. The industrial action, driven largely by air traffic controllers from Sunday, disrupted flights at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi and airports in Mombasa, Kisumu and Eldoret, prompting cancellations and delays including by Kenya Airways and RwandAir. Under the deal, agency fees owed to the union and held by the airports authority will be released immediately, collective bargaining talks with the civil aviation authority will resume with a commitment to implement the outcome, and striking workers will face no victimization or disciplinary action. A separate court dispute over union recognition at Jambojet continues, with both sides agreeing to abide by the ruling. Union leadership urged members to resume duties and clear backlogs at one of East Africa’s busiest aviation hubs.
