Bulgaria’s annual inflation rate rose to 5.1% in August 2026 from 4.5% in July, according to preliminary estimates. Faster transport-price growth, at 22.4% compared with 14.5% in July, was the main driver. Inflation also accelerated for restaurants and accommodation services, recreation, sport and culture, and alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Price growth slowed for food and non-alcoholic beverages, health, and education. Housing and utilities inflation was unchanged at 5.1%, while the decline in clothing and footwear prices eased to 0.0% from -0.4%. Insurance and financial services moved into deflation at -0.3% from 1.1%. Monthly consumer-price growth slowed to 0.6% from 0.8%.
