Social Security recipients will receive September 2026 benefits on different dates based on their benefit category and, for most beneficiaries, the birth date tied to the earnings record. Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, is scheduled for Sept. 1. Beneficiaries who received or applied for Social Security before May 1, 1997, and people receiving both Social Security and SSI, are scheduled for Social Security payments on Sept. 3. Most other beneficiaries will receive payments on Sept. 9, 16 or 23, corresponding to birth dates from the 1st through the 10th, 11th through the 20th, and 21st through the 31st, respectively. The September retirement payment generally represents August benefits, with September benefits paid in October. The Social Security Administration advises recipients to allow three additional mailing days before reporting a late payment and to check upcoming payments through their Social Security account. The next major change will be the 2027 cost-of-living adjustment, which current estimates place at about 3.5% to 3.6%, although the official figure has not been finalized.
