Saudi Arabia unveiled $15 billion in technology investments at the LEAP conference, which kicked off on Monday after a four-month delay due to the Iran war. The deals include a partnership between Together AI and Saudi-backed HUMAIN for a 250-megawatt AI data center expected to generate over $5 billion in gross annualized revenue in its first year. Elon Musk's xAI announced plans to build its first data center outside the United States, initially targeting 50MW capacity before scaling to 500MW. Riyadh is competing with the UAE to become the region's AI hub. Saudi Arabia's digital economy has grown 69% to $199 billion since LEAP launched in 2022, according to the kingdom’s Communications and Information Technology Ministry. The event features 1,800 global technology brands exploring AI, cloud computing and more. Amazon Web Services expanded its partnership with HUMAIN targeting up to 50MW for Saudi's first AI Zone by 2028, while planning a cloud region by December 2026 with more than $5.3 billion investment. HUMAIN and DataVolt plan a 100MW facility at Oxagon in NEOM expected in 2028.
