Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held separate meetings with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the 2026 Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek. Pezeshkian and Japarov discussed expanding cooperation across trade, energy, transportation, logistics, agriculture, defense, tourism and culture, while highlighting Iran’s free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union and the need to remove obstacles. Putin and Pezeshkian discussed Russia-Iran economic and trade ties, with Putin saying existing cooperation would continue despite the current military and political environment as military tensions between the United States and Iran rise again. Pezeshkian also linked regional security to cooperation among regional countries and rejection of foreign interference.
