A super PAC supporting Texas Senate GOP nominee Ken Paxton has launched two ads costing $15 million, intensifying his contest with Democrat James Talarico. Lone Star Liberty PAC will air the ads across 18 Texas markets over the next two weeks, highlighting Paxton’s record as attorney general and attacking Talarico over his vote against criminal penalties for foreign entities purchasing state land. The legislation passed the Texas Legislature and was signed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R). The race remains competitive by fundraising, polling and election handicapping measures. Talarico has raised $68.5 million since launching his Senate bid last September and held more than $21.5 million at the end of June, compared with less than $1.8 million for Paxton’s campaign, according to Federal Election Commission data. Decision Desk HQ gave Talarico a 55% chance of winning, while Cook Political Report rated the contest a Toss Up. A Texas Public Opinion Research survey found Talarico leading 48% to 42%, with 7% undecided and a 3.3-percentage-point margin of error.
