Medtronic plc (NYSE: MDT) shares surged more than 9% in premarket trading to $95.20 and later settled at $92.04, up 1.52% in regular trading, after fiscal first-quarter 2027 results beat Wall Street estimates and the company raised full-year guidance while expanding its robotic-surgery footprint. For the period ended July 31, revenue rose about 14% to roughly $9.76 billion ($9.756 billion as previously detailed), ahead of the $9.55 billion estimate, with about $570 million, or roughly 670 basis points of organic growth, tied to an extra selling week; adjusted EPS was $1.45 versus the $1.39 consensus and $1.26 a year earlier, while adjusted operating income reached about $2.32 billion. Cardiovascular led with $3.93 billion in revenue, up 19.5%, as Cardiac Ablation Solutions grew 88% overall and 139% in the United States and surpassed $2 billion on a trailing twelve-month basis ahead of schedule. Medtronic lifted FY27 organic revenue growth guidance to 7.25%-7.75% from 6.75%-7.25% and narrowed adjusted EPS guidance to $5.94-$6.00, while projecting second-quarter organic growth of about 6% and flagging a $50 million to $150 million full-year foreign-exchange revenue headwind. It announced a $700 million investment securing distribution rights outside the United States for Cornerstone Robotics’ Sentire system to complement Hugo, plus an $80 million stake in Pi-Cardia with a $210 million acquisition option, and said Hugo procedures are expected to exceed 50,000 by the end of fiscal 2027.
