Intercontinental Exchange agreed on Aug. 31 to invest in tZERO and license its portfolio of 103 blockchain patents across 23 families as the firms develop infrastructure for an upcoming NYSE-affiliated Digital Trading Platform for tokenized securities. Under a memorandum of understanding, tZERO will serve as a design partner for digital transfer-agent and broker-dealer systems supporting issuance, trading and on-chain settlement, and is expected to become an approved digital transfer agent and platform subscriber if it meets applicable requirements, without exclusivity or a guarantee of approval. The platform first outlined in January pairs ICE's Pillar matching engine with blockchain-based post-trade systems and, subject to approval, targets 24/7 trading, immediate settlement, fractional shares, dollar-denominated orders and stablecoin funding across multiple networks, while tokenized shareholders would retain conventional rights including dividends and governance. ICE did not disclose the investment size, tZERO's valuation or a financing timetable, and no final rules, supported blockchains, stablecoins, listing standards or launch date have been announced. The companies will also evaluate tZERO-issued tokenized assets as collateral across ICE's six clearing houses, remaining exploratory, while ICE separately works with BNY and Citi on tokenized deposits; tZERO joins Securitize, named in March as the first digital transfer agent for the project, amid ICE's broader on-chain push.
