The Department of Justice, Department of Transportation and Department of Homeland Security launched the Joint Task Force Crossroads of America, a multi-state initiative targeting fraud and criminal activity in the commercial trucking sector. The task force links federal, state and local agencies across Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio, focusing on commercial driver’s license fraud, deficient training and testing, identity-document fraud, unauthorized employment, financial crime, labor exploitation and potential links to human smuggling, drug trafficking and cartel activity. The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration said it will immediately remove more than 110 entry-level driver-training providers associated with more than 5,000 drivers who failed English language proficiency tests, while proposing the removal of more than 160 additional providers linked to 239 commercial motor vehicle fatalities. Officials also announced a nationwide audit of third-party CDL skills testers, a synchronized inspection surge at more than 200 driving schools across 23 states on August 31, 2026, and continuing investigations and enforcement operations involving trucking companies, schools, carriers and drivers.
