Telegram has begun distributing its native self-custodial Gram Wallet to selected users and made it the default wallet option for its 950 million users, while rebranding Wallet in Telegram as Walt for multi-chain trading and investment services. Founder Pavel Durov said on August 31 that access would gradually extend to Telegram's billion-plus users over the following weeks after network validators approved the wallet's upgradeable smart contracts. Gram leaves private-key control with users and supports zero-fee transfers, payments and purchases of Telegram Collectibles, including digital gifts, usernames and phone numbers. Market coverage showed GRAM rising nearly 8% to around $1.45 with volume up 168% to about $119.63 million before easing near $1.38; later updates described an approximately 2% advance toward $1.40 after a brief $1.46 peak and a 137% increase in daily trading activity. Walt remains Telegram's broader multi-chain trading and investment platform and is no longer the default wallet.
