China-Kyrgyzstan relations have entered a “golden” period of rapid development, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov said during Xi’s state visit to Bishkek. Bilateral trade reached a record $27.2 billion in 2025, up 19.8% year on year, while trade totaled $11.7 billion in the first seven months of 2026 and cumulative Chinese direct investment in Kyrgyzstan exceeded $2 billion by the end of July. The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway is advancing, with the Kyrgyz section representing nearly 60% of the route. The countries also signed more than 20 agreements, a joint declaration on their comprehensive strategic partnership and a treaty on permanent good-neighborliness, friendship and cooperation. As founding states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (regional security and cooperation group), they said they would deepen coordination through the United Nations, the SCO, the China-Central Asia mechanism and the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization.
