Demotech, Inc. received Lawyer International – Legal 100 2026 recognition as Niche Financial Analysis Provider [Insurance] – US and urged insurers and trade association associate members to maintain memberships during 2026 budget reviews and 2027 planning. President and co-founder Joseph L Petrelli said the award and advocacy reflected Demotech’s research into what it calls tech-enabled litigation instigation, a model using online advertising, artificial intelligence platforms, litigation marketing firms and, in some cases, third-party litigation funding or other investment to move policyholder claims into contested or litigated claims. Demotech’s 2022 postmortem found failed carriers represented 4% of homeowners’ insurance premium but 18% of new annual litigated claims. Petrelli described 2017 to 2026 as the insurance sector’s "Lost Decade," while Sharon Romano Petrelli said billions of dollars in third-party litigation funding and additional billions directed toward changes to the legal profession made collective trade association advocacy especially important. Demotech also highlighted its Financial Stability Ratings and SEC registration as an NRSRO for insurance-company ratings since July 11, 2022.
