American Airlines will provide a one-time $1,000 contribution to eligible employees’ children’s Trump Accounts, matching the federal government’s seed contribution. Thousands of children could qualify, while about one-third of the airline’s nearly 140,000 global employees will eventually be able to contribute up to $2,500 in pretax earnings annually, starting in 2027 after Treasury rules are finalized. The move comes as the carrier faces pressure to close an earnings gap with Delta Air Lines and United Airlines, carries about $35 billion in debt, and expects roughly break-even results for 2026 after a senior leadership reorganization in August. Separately, the Dell Foundation has begun moving $250 grants into activated accounts for eligible children born between 2016 and 2024 who live in ZIP codes with median incomes of $150,000 or less. Dell and his wife, Susan Dell, committed $6.25 billion to the initiative, which could support as many as 25 million children. Trump Accounts, also known as 530A accounts, launched nationwide on July 4 and allow eligible children born between 2025 and 2028 to receive a one-time $1,000 Treasury contribution, with families, employers and others able to add up to $5,000 annually. More than 50 companies have pledged contributions or matching programs.
