Blue Voice, a Boston-based AI startup founded by David Lawrence, Amit Patankar and Michael Gropman, is emerging from stealth with $6 million led by SignalFire and Las Olas VC. Its platform gives police officers real-time access to department-specific laws, local ordinances, protocols and guidelines, addressing the difficulty of making split-second decisions from memory across thousands of pages of rules. The company says it serves 225 county agencies in 25 states and now answers a question every minute. The system cites original regulations rather than generating unsupported answers, while leaving decisions to officers. Lawrence says the company expanded its customer base elevenfold over the past year and cites cases involving a potential kidnapping and a post-shooting mental-health requirement. Blue Voice competes with PE-backed Lexipol as the use of AI in policing, including license-plate surveillance, faces civil-liberties concerns.
