The Trump administration will soon announce sharply lower vehicle fuel-economy standards, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said Monday in Michigan. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (U.S. vehicle-safety regulator) proposed in December reducing requirements for model years 2022 through 2031 to a fleetwide average of 34.5 miles per gallon by 2031, compared with 50.4 mpg (21.4 kilometers per liter) under former President Joe Biden.
