South Korea’s Financial Services Commission said it will run a digital-asset task force through 2028 to prepare the Digital Asset Basic Law, including subordinate rules and ecosystem infrastructure. Officials said prior oversight centered on illegal activity and investor-loss prevention, leaving gaps in business conduct, disclosure, and issuance-and-circulation rules. The FSC aims to settle the law’s main contents within 2026 via the Virtual Asset Committee and party-government talks, then build a fuller supervisory system. Security-token institutionalization legislation cleared the National Assembly in January 2026 and is slated to take effect in February 2027, while association-led infrastructure work continues. The timeline follows earlier Phase 2 framework delays, contested ownership-cap proposals, and separate virtual-asset tax preparations aimed at January 1, 2027.
