OpenClaw has shipped version 2026.8.1, branded OpenClaw 2.0, in its largest release to date. The update involved 933 contributors, including 569 first-time contributors, and more than 16,000 pull requests. It simplifies setup, rebuilds the browser-based Control UI around chat, adds shared cloud sessions, moves session storage to SQLite and introduces enterprise-oriented controls including request-specific approvals, scoped command permissions, container sandboxing, role-enforced execution and a team Secret Store. OpenClaw remains a free, MIT-licensed, self-hosted open-source framework, although sandboxing and approvals are disabled by default and separate Gateways are required for tenant isolation.
