Binance founder Changpeng Zhao says his personal wealth strategy rests on four rules: avoiding stock purchases, property speculation, crypto trading and excessive cash holdings. He said real estate transactions take too long to justify their returns, while he avoids both stock trading and short-term crypto bets. Instead, Zhao said he holds crypto for the long term and sells portions when needed. He recalled selling his home in 2013 to buy Bitcoin, then maintaining that position through a two-thirds price decline and an 18-month flat market. Zhao founded Binance in 2017, and the exchange became the world’s largest crypto trading platform within five months. He was sentenced to four months in prison in 2023 for violating the U.S. Bank Secrecy Act and was pardoned by Trump last year, according to the report. His net worth is estimated at about $114.6 billion.
