The Korea AeroSpace Administration (KASA) has drafted a 2027 budget proposal of 1.6491 trillion won (approximately $1.2 billion), up 529 billion won (approximately $386.6 million), or about 47%, from this year's 1.1201 trillion won (approximately $818.7 million). The proposal concentrates spending on space transportation and lunar exploration, with the government seeking regular Nuri rocket launches and a domestically developed small lunar lander mission by 2030. Lunar exploration funding would rise 180.1% to 279.4 billion won (approximately $204.2 million), including 106.3 billion won (approximately $77.7 million) for the small lander, 13 billion won (approximately $9.5 million) for a lunar-orbit communications satellite, and 5.6 billion won (approximately $4.1 million) for lunar science, technology payloads and mobility development. Space transportation funding, described by KASA as "space highway construction," would increase 113.8% to 562.9 billion won (approximately $411.4 million). The allocation includes 75 billion won (approximately $54.8 million) for follow-on Nuri launch support, with a target of at least one launch annually, and 291.6 billion won (approximately $213.1 million) for the next-generation launch vehicle. The plan also provides 264.7 billion won (approximately $193.5 million) for advanced satellite development, 184.5 billion won (approximately $134.9 million) for the private space and aerospace industrial ecosystem, and 56.8 billion won (approximately $41.5 million) for aviation. KASA Administrator Oh Tae-seok said the proposal is intended to connect government-led technology development with corporate growth and industrial competitiveness. The proposal must still undergo National Assembly review and plenary session approval.
