Hyundai Motor sold 288,574 vehicles worldwide in August, down 14.2% from a year earlier, as union strikes disrupted production and deliveries; domestic sales fell 41.1% to 34,333, while overseas sales declined 8.5% to 254,241. Kia reported 266,675 global sales, up 5.0%, supported by a 7.4% increase in overseas sales to 225,413 despite a 7.6% domestic decline to 40,213, allowing it to outsell Hyundai Motor in South Korea by about 5,900 vehicles for a second consecutive month. KG Mobility sold 6,860 vehicles, down 22.6%, as domestic sales dropped 43.3% to 2,300 and exports fell 5.1% to 4,560. Through August, Hyundai Motor sales fell 6.0% to 2,575,360, Kia sales rose 4.4% to 2,196,123, and KG Mobility exports increased 1.2% to 45,454 units. The companies are emphasizing new models, electrified vehicles, overseas distribution and expanded knock-down assembly to support future growth.
