Binance has launched an options trading service linked to more than 1,000 U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds for users outside the United States. The product is offered through Nest Trading Ltd., Binance’s Abu Dhabi entity, with order execution, clearing and custody handled by U.S.-registered broker-dealer Alpaca Securities. Bloomberg reported the September 1 introduction. Shunyet Jan, Binance’s head of exchange and trading, said crypto infrastructure for traditional assets has proven popular in practice and that options can be a more precise tool because they do not involve forced liquidation and let traders choose expiration dates. The service expands Binance’s traditional-asset lineup after tokenized securities and perpetual futures. Monthly volume in perpetual futures tied to traditional assets rose about 15-fold from $30 billion in January to $445 billion in July, while cumulative TradFi perpetual volume across platforms exceeded $1.6 trillion over that span, with Binance holding 59% to 76% market share by subcategory. The expansion coincides with ongoing U.S. legal challenges for Binance, including a 2023 Department of Justice settlement over anti-money-laundering and sanctions violations, and the Alpaca structure has raised questions about jurisdictional boundaries even though the products are offered outside the United States. Daily volume in SanDisk-linked perpetual futures recently surpassed Bitcoin, and Coinbase and Kraken have also pursued similar traditional-asset products.
