Germany registered 212,563 new cars in August 2026, up 2.6% from a year earlier. Private registrations rose 16.9% and represented 40.5% of the market, while commercial registrations fell 5.3% to a 59.4% share. Battery-electric vehicle (BEV) registrations posted the strongest growth, jumping 75.1% to 68,930 units and lifting their market share to 32.4%. Gasoline registrations dropped 37.9% to a 16.7% share, while diesel registrations declined 17.3% and accounted for 10.6%. Total registrations reached 1.97 million in the first eight months of 2026, 4.8% above the same period a year earlier.
