The announcement described Hamas as a designated foreign terrorist organization and connected the seized assets and addresses to its military wing, the Al-Qassam Brigades. According to the Justice Department, three unsealed cryptocurrency seizure warrants covered funds identified, traced and seized on March 25, June 25 and October 10, 2025. Multiple human sources helped investigators follow approximately $560,000 in cryptocurrency destined to support the Al-Qassam Brigades. The September announcement disclosed a completed enforcement operation and did not claim that all funds were seized on one day. It did not identify the specific cryptocurrencies, the number of wallets or the blockchain chains involved. Court documents alleged that an encrypted group chat directed supporters to a fundraising website and provided a rotating set of donation addresses. The FBI’s Albuquerque Field Office also seized domains and servers connected to AlQassam.ps, described by the government as the group’s main website. Control of that infrastructure allowed investigators to intercept intended donations. The FBI obtained information about thousands of people who contacted Hamas online to donate or attempt to donate through cryptocurrency and traditional payment methods. These are government allegations, and the release did not announce charges against the individuals involved. The operation combined blockchain tracing with domain and server seizures rather than focusing solely on wallets. That approach is similar to other U.S. forfeiture actions involving digital assets. The FBI Albuquerque Field Office is investigating with support from the bureau’s Counterterrorism Division, Cyber Division and New York Field Office. Prosecutors from the District of Columbia and the National Security Division, along with assistance from the Counterterrorism Section and the October 7th Task Force, are involved. The release did not indicate that the broader fundraising network had been eliminated or provide a timeline for further action. The confirmed results are narrower: cryptocurrency, domains and servers were seized, and information gathered may support future counterterrorism work.
