OCI Energy and Arava Power have started construction of the 260 MW Sun Roper solar plant in Wharton County, Texas, as electricity demand rises with the expansion of artificial intelligence data centers. The project is targeted to begin commercial operation in 2027 and will generate enough electricity to power about 60,000 households. OCI Energy and Arava Power each hold a 50% stake, with project financing secured through a long-term power purchase agreement signed with a global corporation in February. The development marks OCI Holdings' planned shift toward owning and operating power plants, alongside its existing solar and energy-storage development and sales businesses. OCI Energy has developed and sold about 2 GW of utility-scale solar projects in Texas since 2012 and currently has a 6.3 GW solar and energy-storage pipeline. OCI Holdings aims to secure more than 15 GW of U.S. development assets and 2 GW of operational assets by 2030.
