El Salvador’s national Bitcoin reserve has reached 7,762 BTC after the government added one Bitcoin this week, worth roughly $598 million with Bitcoin trading near $77,000. The government continues acquiring one Bitcoin a day, a policy maintained since the country adopted Bitcoin as legal tender in 2021. It added more than 1,600 BTC between January and April despite a $1.4 billion International Monetary Fund financing agreement that called for public-sector purchases to stop. Legislative changes tied to the agreement removed Bitcoin’s legal-tender status and made merchant acceptance voluntary, but did not end reserve purchases. Earlier reports valued 7,762.37 BTC at $602.84 million and estimated an unrealized profit of $167.82 million.
