Opposition parties are intensifying scrutiny of six ministerial nominees in the Lee Jae-myung administration ahead of parliamentary confirmation hearings, with Gender Equality and Family Minister nominee Yong Hye-in facing fresh criticism over past basic income activism alongside continued pressure to resign her proportional representative seat. The People Power Party has highlighted a 2018 civic campaign linked to Yong that used the slogan "No work, Yes money," arguing it reflects a distorted view of labor and young people, and has raised cronyism concerns after former colleagues from those groups took key roles in the Basic Income Party and her office, including spouse Park Ki-hong. Yong has defended early party appointments as consistent with the charter then in force and said she will answer questions at her confirmation hearing, expected sometime in September. Basic Income Party leadership candidate Oh Joon-ho has separately appealed for understanding of minor-party circumstances so Yong can keep the party's only Assembly seat, citing succession rules and state subsidies that rose sharply after local elections. Other nominees, including Justice Minister nominee Kim Seung-won, remain under review over lobbying and related allegations, with hearings coordinated for mid-September before Chuseok.
