SK Biopharmaceuticals has secured 128 Nvidia B200 AI accelerators through an annual subscription worth about 17 billion won ($12.4 million), marking the first large-scale subscription-based AI accelerator deployment by a South Korean pharmaceutical or biotech company. The infrastructure was deployed through Haein, South Korea’s first B200-based data center cluster, built by SK Telecom, and provides about 576 petaflops at FP8 precision, or roughly 0.58 exaflops. The company will use the capacity for TR-AX, its AI transformation of translational research linking preclinical findings with human clinical outcomes, while training a foundation model on bio and healthcare data and developing a proprietary large language model for internal operations. SK Biopharmaceuticals conducts candidate identification and preclinical research in South Korea before running clinical trials in the United States; cenobamate, an epilepsy treatment approved and commercialized in the U.S., is a leading example. The company’s AI program also includes collaborations with external researchers, a joint research agreement with Insilico Medicine worth up to $2.57 billion, and two initial ROR1-binding compounds identified with SK Telecom. Overseas pharmaceutical companies are also expanding AI capacity: Eli Lilly built a 1,016-GPU Blackwell Ultra system in February, while Roche added 2,176 Nvidia Blackwell GPUs in March, taking its total Blackwell infrastructure above 3,500 units.
