Google will expand office space at its AI infrastructure research and development center in Taipei’s Shilin district by 60%, as CTO and Senior Vice President of AI Infrastructure Amin Vahdat described Taiwanese companies as co-design partners and outlined faster TPU deployment for rising Agentic AI demand. The announcement came during his first public keynote in Asia at SEMICON Taiwan 2026 on September 2, the 20th anniversary year of Google Taiwan, whose operation is the company’s largest hardware-engineering R&D base outside the United States. The event also highlighted Taiwan’s semiconductor expansion: 20 companies added $20 billion to planned U.S. investments, bringing their combined plans to as much as $55 billion, separate from TSMC’s reported $265 billion commitment, while Taiwan targets semiconductor output above NT$8 trillion in 2026. Alphabet raised its 2026 capital-expenditure guidance to $195–205 billion as Google scales custom TPU capacity and Taiwan’s supply chain expands across advanced packaging, servers, power, cooling, networking and equipment.
