Core DAO is coordinating an emergency hard fork after a small group of validators claimed CORE rewards above the blockchain’s intended issuance. The project said on Sept. 1 that it had contained the issue and stopped the validators from drawing further excess rewards. The forward upgrade will change network rules without rolling back the chain or reversing confirmed transactions. Coinbase paused sends and receives on the Core network, while Bithumb, Coinone, Bitget and LBank restricted CORE deposits or withdrawals for security, maintenance or project-related reasons. Core said user assets remained safe, and exchanges did not report customer-fund losses linked to the incident. The project has not disclosed the amount of excess CORE issued, whether any entered circulation, the number of validators involved, the duration of the activity or the vulnerability that enabled it. Core has not set an activation date for the upgrade and plans to publish a technical postmortem.
