Anthony Scaramucci said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick have what he calls "Potomac fever," a mindset in which successful outsiders believe they can enter Washington and fix it, only to be changed by the political system. Speaking on CNBC's "Executive Decisions" with host Steve Sedgwick in an episode released Tuesday, Scaramucci said the condition is difficult to recognize and becomes dangerous when officials tie their egos to political access and status. Scaramucci served as White House communications director for 11 days in July 2017 before John Kelly became chief of staff and he was removed. He said the episode, which coincided with missing his son's birth and his wife filing for divorce, prompted a moral and intellectual reckoning. He also recounted being fired from Goldman Sachs for incompetence before being rehired in a role he considered better suited to his abilities. The White House previously dismissed his comments, saying his "10 days of relevance ended almost a decade ago."
