Russian President Vladimir Putin has renamed the planned Power of Siberia 2 gas pipeline to China as Power of Baikal, Russia's Energy Minister Sergei Tsivilev said at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok. The 2,600-km project is expected to transport 50 billion cubic metres of gas a year from Arctic gas fields in Yamal to China through Mongolia. Tsivilev said the project was in its final stages before construction, although he did not say whether any other elements had changed. The pipeline has long been delayed by disagreements over gas pricing. Putin has said its price would use a market formula similar to the method Russia applies to shipments to Europe. The project would complement the existing Power of Siberia 1 pipeline, which carried 38 billion cubic metres of gas from Russia to China last year.
