The FTSE 100 fell 0.3% to 10,760 on Wednesday, extending the previous session’s losses and reaching its lowest level in two weeks. Gilt losses eased after Prime Minister Andy Burnham sought to reassure markets that the government remains committed to fiscal discipline, although yields stayed elevated as oil prices continued rising amid escalating conflict in the Middle East. Experian, Reckitt Benckiser and London Stock Exchange Group were among the biggest drags, declining between 2.9% and 2.4%. Miners Endeavour, Fresnillo, Antofagasta and Anglo American surged as metal prices increased, while InterContinental Hotels and Standard Chartered each gained almost 2%. BP appointed Ian Tyler as chair after the surprise departure of Albert Manifold earlier this year. Ryanair lowered its full-year 2027 traffic outlook and warned that European short-haul fares could rise "materially" if elevated oil prices persist.
